Co-operative Arrangements

AFA is a founding member of the Nunavut Fisheries Association (NFA; formerly the Nunavut Offshore Allocation Holders Association). NFA represents the common interests of Nunavut’s commercial fishing industry. In addition, through our membership we support important research and development initiatives including:

• Multi-species surveys (i.e. the turbot stock assessment)

• Northern Shrimp Research Foundation surveys

• Emerging and test fisheries

• Reducing fishing gear impacts

• Ecosystem research

• Inclusion of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (traditional knowledge)

AFA is also a long-time supporter and financial contributor to the Nunavut Fisheries and Marine Training Consortium (NFMTC). The NFMTC provides training opportunities to Nunavut beneficiaries interested in pursuing careers in the marine and fishing industries.

Finally, AFA continues to be receptive to mutually-advantageous quota exchanges and other fishing arrangements with all Nunavut fisheries stakeholders.
